CSR

An Integrated Approach

By having an integrated approach to CSR, PPGPL ensures the sustainability of not just its business, but the society within which it operates as a whole.

What do we believe?

We  believe that we have a duty of care to the members of the communities within which we operate and work to ensure that all of us have a bright and sustainable future.

How does PPGPL define CSR

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a business strategy focused on social, environmental and economic development. It involves the company’s demonstration of our responsibility to our internal stakeholder- employees, and to our external stakeholders ranging from regulators to communities. By having an integrated approach to CSR, we ensure the sustainability of our business and the society within which we operate.

We use a collaborative model of community engagement to understand the concerns and issues of communities. In so doing, projects are focused on what specific communities identify as important and necessary.

We partner with educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and community groups to address issues within our CSR focus areas.

CSR Project

United Way Day of Caring

For United Way’s Day of Caring 2024, we partnered with the National Centre for Persons with Disability to establish a home garden at the Centre in San Fernando. Twenty of our employee volunteers and graduate trainees participated in planting 28 species of herbs, vegetables and fruit trees donated by PPGPL.

Working alongside the students of the centre for a few hours, we braved the scorching morning sun and emersed ourselves in gardening for a cause. In the end, we laid down over 1,000 plants. When mature, some of the produce will be consumed by the Centre, while others will be sold as part of the institution’s income-generating activities.

PPGPL has supported the NCPD for several years, through annual bursaries and the construction of the wheelchair wing in 2009.

CSR Project

Gift to the Nation

One of the company’s largest national CSR initiatives is branded Gift to the Nation. This project is tied to the company’s safety performance, of no lost workday case for 12 consecutive months.  The Gift to the Nation (GTTN) program was established in 1997 and employees have an opportunity to contribute project ideas which may be used to frame a national project.

Over the years, we have delivered several Gift to the Nation projects targeting a wide range of issues and interest groups such as health and wellness, road safety, the elderly, low-income housing, addiction, security and disaster preparedness.
